Sunway University in Malaysia Announces Prestigious Scholarships for Academic Year

Sunway University College offers Doctoral Scholarships for PhD students. The university states it will offer Full Studentships and Fee Waiver Scholarships for candidates who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance and dedication to advancing research. Scholarships are provided under scheme rules described for postgraduate research study.

Scholarships are open to all full-time postgraduate students enrolled on programmes by research. Applicable programmes depend on the award type: Master by Research and PhD are covered for some bursary or scholarship categories, while another category is PhD only. The listed Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) areas include Biology, Business, Computing, Creative Arts and Media, Hospitality and Tourism, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Science, Psychology, Sustainability Science and Technology, Sustainable Development, Education, and Nursing.

For the bursary or scholarship scheme, eligibility includes meeting the university’s entry requirements and receiving an unconditional offer from Sunway University College. The university states awards take effect from the 1st day of enrolment and continue for the normal duration of the programme subject to satisfactory performance and successful progression. Students can lose the award if behaviour or performance is unsatisfactory or if they withdraw from or are withdrawn from the programme. To continue funding for year 2, the student must complete proposal defense, receive ethics approval, and show that data collection has commenced by the end of year 1.

• Applicants must meet all necessary entry requirements for the chosen programme of study.
• Applicants must receive an unconditional offer from the University.
• Applicants must successfully complete their proposal defense, receive ethics approval, and demonstrate that data collection has commenced by the end of year 1 to continue scholarship funding for year 2.
• Applicants for Master by Research or PhD categories must meet the entry requirement for the Master by Research or PhD programmes.
• For Master by Research and PhD categories, CGPA must be greater than or equal to 3.5 or equivalent.
• For PhD scholarship criteria requiring a published journal article: CGPA must be greater than or equal to 3.5 AND at least one journal article indexed in WOS/Scopus/ERA.
• If the applicant does not have a published journal article indexed in WOS/Scopus/ERA, the applicant must demonstrate: CGPA greater than or equal to 3.75; evidence of an individual research project; and completion of a research methodology course.
• Eligible applicants will be interviewed, and Studentship awards will be given on a competitive basis.
• Bursary is only offered to Sunway graduates from Sunway Education Group higher education institutions.
• Scholarship is open to Sunway and non-Sunway graduates.
• Mode of study must be full-time.

• Master by Research: 30% tuition fee waiver (bursary).
• PhD: 50% tuition fee waiver (bursary).
• Master by Research: 60% tuition fee waiver (scholarship).
• PhD: 100% tuition fee waiver (scholarship).
• PhD scholarship includes registration and resource fees as part of the 100% tuition fee waiver.
• PhD cost of living allowance of RM3,000 per month for 36 months (under the listed financial support for PhD).
• Master by Research is not eligible for the bursary category listed under Financial Support.
• Studentships are subject to satisfactory performance and successful progression for the normal duration of the programme, and the university reserves the right to withdraw the award if behaviour or performance is unsatisfactory or if the student withdraws or is withdrawn from the programme of study.
