Masters Erasmus Mundus-Intercultural Mediation: Identities, Mobilities, Conflicts

The International Master Borders and travel: the cultural changes and dynamics of the territories offers interdisciplinary training for excellence in 4 semesters, established by joint research programs within a consortium: University of Lille (France), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), University College Cork (Ireland), Babes-Bolyai University (Romania), University Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (Senegal) and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Also, professionals as well as public and private institutions are associated with them.

The universities from the consortium will from now on be referred to via their acronyms: UBB ( Babeş-Bolyai University from Cluj), UCC (University College Cork), UW (University of Wroclaw), UCAD (Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar), UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), K.U. Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), Lille 3 (Université Lille 3).

The partner universities from the consortium are all located in territories shaped by human displacement (enslavement, wars, colonialism, military occupations, nomadic mobility, diasporas, economic mobility …) and thus they are deeply concerned with both the understanding of the phenomenon’s contemporary forms and the training of experts: Brazil marked by huge internal and international migration; the French-Belgian frontier areawhich is in full restructuring due to the reconversion of previous industries;Ireland, once marked by emigration, is now confronted with massive immigration, caused by the current crisis; Romania, historically marked by the issue of minorities and by the instability of its frontiers, is nowadays characterized by a political and economic openness which triggers displacement all of a sudden; Poland and its unique history marked by transfers of population after the Second World War, by its tradition of emigration and by its recent position of border-country of the European Union; Senegal, both attraction point for Africa and other continents and departure point of migrants; Mexico, in its conflict-torn frontier relation with the United States and its crossroads position between North America and South America.
