Nanyang Technological University CLASS Postdoctoral/Research Fellowships in Singapore, 2017

Nanyang Technological University is inviting applications for CLASS postdoctoral/research fellowships for the academic year 2017-2018. International applicants are eligible to apply for these fellowships.

Successful candidates will be affiliated with one or more than one of the constituent schools of the College—namely, School of Art, Design, and Media (ADM), School of Humanities (SoH), School of Social Sciences (SSS), and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI).

The Nanyang Technological University is an autonomous university in Singapore offering publicly-funded degree programmes.

Degree Level: Fellowships are available to pursue postdoctoral programme and research.

Available Subject: Applications are welcome for the themes listed below. Preference will be given to projects that cut across disciplinary boundaries in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. Successful candidates are expected to begin their fellowships in July or August 2017.

Themes

A. Global Asia: Asian history, culture, and society (e.g. political uncertainty) from a global perspective

  • Health and society: Healthcare issues from humanistic and social scientific perspectives
    (e.g. ageing; communication; healthcare delivery)
  • Science, technology, and society
  • *Water research from sustainability, historical, and sociological viewpoints.* Appointed fellows for this theme will work jointly with the Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute.

Preference will be given to projects that cut across disciplinary boundaries in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. Successful candidates are expected to begin their fellowships in July or August 2017.

Scholarship Benefits: CLASS postdoctoral fellows may claim up to S$5,000 per year for local/overseas conferences*, fieldwork or other expenses related to their research work.  This includes air ticket by the most economical route, per diem, registration fees, etc.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:

For appointments at the postdoctoral fellow level, applicants must possess a doctoral degree issued no more than 3 years prior to the time of application (i.e. the degree must have been obtained after Jan 1, 2014). Candidates who are finishing up their degrees must have been conferred their doctoral degrees by July 2017. For appointments at the research fellow level, we welcome candidates with advanced postdoctoral research experience.

Applicants should explore the research interests of the College’s faculty members to identify potential faculty mentors. They must state the research theme for which they are applying on the application form and demonstrate in their research plan how their expertise crosses different disciplines and relates to the theme they are applying for.

Reference letters:
At least two references letters, on official letterhead and signed by the referees, are to be sent directly by the referees.

Deadline: Applications and reference letters must reach the College by January 18, 2017.
