NL Scholarship for International Students

The NL Scholarship (formerly known as Holland Scholarship) is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science as well as several Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship amount is €5,000, paid in the first year of the applicant’s studies, and it is not a full-tuition scholarship.

The NL Scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in the Netherlands. Applicants must apply for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s programme at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions, and meet the specific requirements of the institution they choose.

Selection is based on meeting the stated application criteria, including non-EEA nationality, enrolment in a full-time bachelor’s or master’s programme at a participating institution, and meeting that institution’s specific requirements. The scholarship also includes a code of conduct for unacceptable behaviour under Nuffic integrity rules.

The scholarship provides €5,000 in the first year of the applicant’s studies. The page also states that the scholarship is managed under Nuffic’s Code of Conduct, describing professional and ethical behaviour expected from those who handle individual NL Scholarships.

• You do not have a degree from an education institution in the Netherlands.
• Nuffic or programmes managed by Nuffic may not be involved in activities involving unacceptable behaviour, including interpersonal or financial misconduct or abuses of power.
• Activities considered unacceptable include: bankruptcy, insolvency or winding-up procedures; breach of obligations relating to the payment of taxes or social security contributions; conduct related to a criminal organisation; money laundering or terrorist financing; terrorist offenses or offenses linked to terrorist activities; irregularity; creating a shell company; being a shell company.
