The Open Polytechnic Bachelor of Social Health and Wellbeing (Disability) (Level 7, 360 credits) prepares you to work in the disability sector. You study people-centred approaches, relational work with people and their family/whānau, and team communication in a health and wellbeing context. You also build skills to apply and critique theories and models, including indigenous models, and to evaluate information to support evidence-based, people-centred support.
Delivery is online study with Open Polytechnic. You work through online course materials at a pace that suits you between course start and end dates, with no need to travel to a campus. The qualification includes compulsory workshops, noho marae, and practica. You complete and are assessed on 300 hours of supervised practice during practica, and you take practicum courses BHW601 and BHW702 with specified workshop time. Some agencies may require a COVID-19 vaccination.
