The Bachelor of Teaching (Primary Education) (OP7032) at Open Polytechnic is designed for people aiming to become a primary school teacher. You study primary education with an emphasis on an in-depth understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo Māori, and tikanga Māori, and you practise engaging with tamariki and rangatahi, their parents, families and whānau, and professional colleagues.
The programme uses online study with course materials delivered online at a pace that suits you. There are no scheduled online classes. You complete practicum in local primary school settings, with support and opportunities to connect theory to practice. You also take part in three compulsory noho marae (overnight stay) and develop teaching practice supported by mentors.
