The New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) (Quantity Surveying) [Version 2] is an online programme for people who want skills and knowledge to work as a contractor quantity surveyor. It supports you to assist with all stages of quantity surveying under the supervision of an experienced practitioner. You study planning and organising with financial management, roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and construction contract administration and monitoring.
You also study legislative and regulatory frameworks for the New Zealand building and construction industry. The programme covers evaluating and selecting materials and finishes, structure and structural principles for foundations, substructure, the building envelope, and the interior for small, medium and large buildings, and fire protection systems for medium and large buildings. You learn to analyse, select and administer contracts, prepare tender submissions, manage variations, control expenditure, and produce schedules of quantities.
It is delivered as online study. You work through your course materials online at a pace that suits you between the course start and end dates. You need a laptop or desktop computer and reliable internet, and there is no need to travel to a campus. A course facilitator guides you and answers questions, with support from a Student Mentor and the Library and Learning Centre teams. There are no scheduled online classes, though some courses may include an in-person component such as practicum, workshops, noho marae, or an exam.
