The New Zealand Diploma in Library and Information Studies (Level 5) prepares you to work in library and information services. You build a broad understanding of libraries including public, school, tertiary, national, and special libraries, as well as records and information management. You also learn how to assist with developing, organising, and maintaining library services, spaces, and digital technologies.
You study through distance learning online. You work through course materials online at a pace that suits you between the course start and end dates. You need a laptop or desktop computer and reliable internet. There are no scheduled online classes, but some courses may include an in-person component such as practicum, workshops, noho marae, or an exam. A course facilitator and support teams guide you and answer questions.
This qualification can lead to work as a library or heritage assistant or in library community outreach. It also acts as a starting point for the Bachelor of Library and Information Studies.
