The NHEF Scholars Program

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) identifies talented young Nigerians from its partner universities who have demonstrated strong academic excellence and well-roundedness in professional and extracurricular pursuits. It provides intensive career training and skill-building exercises intended to aid long-term career development.

To qualify, candidates must show a strong commitment to leadership, community service, and philanthropy, with the aim of making a lasting impact. Eligible applicants are penultimate students at NHEF partner universities: 300 level students in a 4 year course, or 400 level students in a 5 year course.

Selected Scholars complete a weeklong orientation program focused on career development training. They then undergo intensive training by international facilitators and take up internship placements at NHEF partner firms, typically lasting 6–8 weeks, alongside a curriculum for continuous personal and professional development.

• Must have strong academic excellence and well-roundedness in professional and extracurricular pursuits.
• Must demonstrate a strong commitment to leadership, community service, and philanthropy.
• Must be a penultimate student at an NHEF partner university: 300 level students studying a 4 year course, or 400 level students studying a 5 year course.
• Must be enrolled at one of these NHEF partner universities: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Bayero University, Kano; University of Ibadan; University of Lagos; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Port Harcourt.

1. Submit the application via the NHEF Application Portal.
2. Register on the portal by creating an account with first name, last name, email address, phone number, and password.
3. Verify the email address by checking the inbox of the registered email and clicking the verification link or copying the verification URL into a browser.
4. Log in using the email address and password created after account validation.
5. Start the application by clicking the APPLY tab from the dashboard.
6. Complete the bio-data information and answer the program essay questions on the application page.
7. Upload the required supporting documents in the requested format.
8. Review responses and submit.
9. After submission, confirm it through the dashboard message, an email confirmation, or by noting that the Scholars Program application tab is no longer accessible.
