Eligibility: –Applicants must hold or be close to completing  a post-graduate master’s degree in a relevant field. Criteria – a  research proposal that fits within the remit of the research project; –  fieldwork in one or more of the project’s regions in the circumpolar North; – a proposal which addresses one or more of the component disciplines of the  project; -The PI of the project reserves the right to approve either one or  both of the studentships depending on the relevance of the topic to the research  project.

Home  fees and RCUK-level maintenance are offered to one to two PhD students taking an  inter-disciplinary approach to the reseach of the 5-year ERC funded project  Arctic Domus. The Department of Anthropology is offering one and perhaps  two interdisciplinary 3-year PhD studentships to start in September 2013. The  studentship will include full UK/Europe fees and a maintenance stipend set at  RCUK rates. The successful applicant(s) will submit a proposal which fits within  the research topic of ‘Arctic Domestication’ as specified on the project website  arcticdomus.org. The student(s) are expected to do field research in at least  one of the seven circumpolar regions covered by the project and to integrate one  of the four component disciplines of the project (anthropology, history of  science, archaeology, genetics).

How to Apply: The applicants should apply to the  PhD programme in Anthropology. There is no separate application but there are  several extra elements of information required: – the candidates should make  clear in their application that they are appling for an Arctic Domus  studentship; – the candidates should supply a writing sample of  approximately 20 pages (chapter, published paper) – the candidates should  supply a research proposal of 2 pages of A4 (single spaced) explaining the their  topic and its relation to the reseach project. the candidates should supply  a 1/2 page budget for fieldwork and equipment.
