Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Santo Tomas is focused on mechanical design and engineering topics such as energy conversion, fuel and combustion technologies, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration systems, fire-protection systems, heat transfer, materials, noise control and acoustics, manufacturing processes, automatic control, product safety and reliability, solar energy, and technological impacts to society. It also covers how mechanical engineers study material behavior under forces and use that foundation to design vehicles, trains, airplanes, power plants, furnaces, cold storage plants, air-conditioning systems, intelligent machines, and robots.

The program is offered by the Faculty of Engineering – Department of Mechanical Engineering and has a length of 4 years. The program schedule is organized into first term (August – December), second term (January – May), and special term (June – July). Course schedules include lecture hours, laboratory hours, and units, with example first-year subjects such as Chemistry Applications in Engineering, Calculus 1, and Introduction to Engineering, along with electives and required training and physical activities.
