Holland-High Potential scholarship - Maastricht University

Fully Funded Holland Masters Deadline: OPEN
Holland-High Potential scholarship - Maastricht University

About this scholarship

The Holland-High Potential scholarship is a fully funded award from Maastricht University in the Netherlands for international students starting a master's degree. It is funded through the Holland Scholarship, a national scheme backed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and it is administered by Maastricht University for non-EU students.

It is open to nationals of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who are admitted to a Maastricht master's programme. The package covers a tuition fee contribution, a monthly living allowance, international travel, visa and residence permit costs, and health and liability insurance. Check the official page for the application deadline and required documents.

What the award covers

  • A contribution towards the tuition fee for the master's programme at Maastricht University.
  • A monthly living allowance paid to the scholarship holder for the duration of the master's programme.
  • Support towards the cost of the international travel needed to come to the Netherlands.
  • Cover for the visa and residence permit costs that non-EU students must pay.
  • Health and liability insurance arranged for the scholarship period.
  • The package is offered for the normal duration of the master's programme, so the total value depends on whether the degree runs for one or two years.

Study levels

The scholarship is for full master's programmes at Maastricht University. Bachelor's programmes, pre-master's programmes and short courses are not covered.

Subjects

It applies across the master's programmes offered by Maastricht University's faculties, so the subject you can study depends on which master's programmes the university offers and admits you to.

Who can apply

Open to nationals of countries outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Applicants who hold an EU/EEA or Swiss nationality are not eligible.

Eligibility

  • You must be a national of a country outside the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
  • You must not hold a nationality of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland.
  • You must not have previously studied or worked in the Netherlands, as the scholarship is for students who are new to the country.
  • You must be applying for a full master's programme at Maastricht University, not a bachelor's, pre-master's or short course.
  • You must meet the admission requirements of the master's programme you apply for, including any language and academic entry requirements.
  • You must be able to show strong academic results in your previous studies.
  • You must apply for admission to Maastricht University and for the scholarship within the stated deadlines.

How to apply

  1. Choose a full master's programme at Maastricht University that you want to follow and check its admission requirements, language requirements and application deadline.
  2. Apply for admission to that master's programme through the university's normal application process, using the My UM portal, and make sure your application is complete.
  3. Register your interest in the NL-High Potential scholarship through the scholarship application route indicated by Maastricht University, which is separate from the admission application.
  4. Prepare the documents the scholarship application asks for, which normally include proof of your nationality, your academic transcripts and diplomas, a motivation letter explaining why you should receive the scholarship, and evidence of your English or Dutch language ability if the programme requires it.
  5. Submit the scholarship application before the scholarship deadline, which falls earlier than the general admission deadline, so do not wait until your admission is confirmed.
  6. Wait for the selection outcome. The university assesses applicants on academic merit and motivation, and only a limited number of scholarships are awarded each year.
  7. If you are selected, accept the offer and follow the instructions on visa, residence permit, insurance and enrolment that the university sends you.
