Shanghai Government Scholarship Overview
A completely financed scholarship for international students is the Shanghai Government Scholarship. This fellowship is available for studies in undergrad, master’s, and doctoral programmes.
The whole cost of tuition, housing, health insurance, and monthly living expenses up to CNY3500 are all covered by this scholarship.
Government Scholarships in Shanghai International students may enrol in SGS to pursue higher education at educational institutions in Shanghai, China.
In order to advance the growth of foreign student education in Shanghai and draw in a growing number of talented international students, the Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) programme was established in 2006.
Studying in Shanghai is an excellent opportunity, and SGS provides Scholarships in China for Non-Chinese Students in a Variety of Subjects. Philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, management, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and the arts are just a few of the many subjects covered by the Shanghai Scholarship.
The city of Shanghai is providing two different types of scholarships. Type A (Full Scholarship) offers comprehensive medical insurance, on-campus housing, and exemption from tuition fees.

Scholarship Coverage
SGS offers two types of scholarships to eligible candidates:
Type A (Full Scholarship)

Shanghai Government Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Shanghai Government Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Non-Chinese citizens in good health.
- Language proficiency: Generally, applicants should achieve Chinese level HSK4 and meet the language requirements of the chosen university and program.
- Age restrictions:
- Pre-college program: Under 23 years old.
- Bachelor degree program: Under 25 years old.
- Master degree program: Under 35 years old.
- Doctoral degree program: Under 40 years old.
- Outstanding academic performance.
- Meet the entry requirements of the applied university and program.
- Applicants who have received other scholarships from the Chinese government or organizations are not eligible to apply for SGS.
Application Process for Shanghai Government Scholarship
\Follow these steps to apply for the Shanghai Government Scholarship:
- Register and apply online via Shanghai Scholarship Application Portal. Complete the online application and download the application form.
- Register and apply online through the website of your chosen university (refer to the list above). Submit the online application and pay any applicable application fees.
- After submitting the online application, download and print two sets of hard-copy application documents (one set of originals and one set of photocopies) and send them to the university you have applied to.

- Notarized photocopy of the highest diploma
- Photocopy of health certificate and blood test results (originals required upon entering China)

- Guardian’s Letter of Guarantee for applicants under 18
