Social Psychology of Banditry-Research Scholarships at University of Kent in UK, 2017

The University of Kent is offering PhD research scholarships in social psychology and politics for September 2017 intake. The GTA competition is open to applicants from any country.

Psychology at Kent offers a supportive, dynamic and diverse environment for creative research and learning.

The social psychology research group at Kent is a leading centre for social psychological research in Europe. The group is comprised of internationally renowned researchers who have established a worldwide reputation for their research.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing the research programme.

Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the field of social psychology and politics.

Scholarship Benefits: The GTA will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a combined maintenance grant and salary, equivalent to the full UK Research Councils rate of £14,553 (rate for 2017/18). The GTA will be offered for one year in the first instance, renewable for a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following area for these scholarships:

  • To be considered for a scholarship, candidates must have at least a 1st or strong 2:1 (or international equivalent) in an undergraduate or Master’s level Psychology (or closely allied discipline) degree from recognised institutions (with evidence of substantial distinction level performance, for example in the dissertation, research methods). All candidates must have at least two supportive academic references, and a background in psychology or a methodologically relevant discipline.
  • The GTA competition is open to applicants from any country. Please note that overseas students must have the appropriate documentation to evidence eligibility to work in the UK. Further information can be found here. Since the award covers tuition fees at the Home/EU rate, Overseas fee paying students would have to make up the difference in tuition fees themselves; the maintenance grant must not be used for this purpose. The method of determining tuition fee status is complex and follows guidelines issued by the UK Council for International Student Affairs.

Application Procedure: All completed applications must comprise all of the following:

  • Submission of a KentVision application for a Social Psychology PhD place in the School of Psychology at the University of Kent including:
    A transcript of degree undergraduate and postgraduate marks to date and certificate, if completed
    The names and email addresses of two academic referees. References must also be received on 28th April 2017. Please leave a suitable amount of time for your referees to respond to the reference request which is sent automatically upon submission of the PhD application in KentVision. If an alternative submission method is needed, referees can send their letter of recommendation directly to psypgadmissions-at-kent.ac.uk via their professional email account.
    A current CV
  • Submission of a covering letter (one or two pages) detailing why you are interested in the project and your unique contribution to the research. The letter should also provide details about your ability and motivation to teach. The covering letter can either be uploaded to the KentVision PhD application or sent directly to psypgadmissions-at-kent.ac.uk.
