The Master of Science in Applied Mathematics (Coursework) offers advanced training in mathematical methods and their real-world applications. Students study key areas including Advanced Mathematical Theory, Mathematical Modelling, Calculus of Variations, and Numerical Analysis. The programme combines three advanced coursework modules with a research dissertation of limited scope. It aims to develop analytical, computational, and research skills. This course prepares graduates for research, academic roles, industry positions, and careers requiring advanced mathematical modelling and quantitative problem-solving.
Applicants need approval from the Faculty Postgraduate Admissions Committee. Eligible candidates must hold a BSc Honours qualification in Applied Mathematics at NQF Level 8 from the University or an equivalent recognised qualification. They must demonstrate suitability for their intended field of study to the Senate. Admission depends also on the availability of suitable academic supervision in the chosen study area.
