Brandtech Group AI For Good Scholarship

The Brandtech Group AI for Good Scholarship is launched by The Brandtech Group in partnership with One Young World. Its purpose is to identify and elevate young African leaders for the sustainable and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).

The scholarship targets young African leaders with track records of impactful and innovative solutions using AI. It covers initiatives aligned with one or more pillars: AI for sustainability and tackling climate change; AI for education access and improving learning systems; AI to combat misinformation, online hate, social harm, and promote social equity; AI to address health access, health inequality, and mental well-being; and AI for active citizen engagement.

Candidates apply through the application portal. If candidates are longlisted, they may be invited to submit additional documentation, including references and a video pitch, as part of the application process.

Selected scholars receive access to the One Young World Summit in Cape Town, hotel accommodation in Cape Town for the Summit period, return air travel, catering, ground transportation between Summit venues, access to Pencil AI, lifelong membership of the One Young World Ambassador Community, membership in the Brandtech AI for Good alumni network, and access to the One Young World Action Accelerator and expert-led mentor sessions, plus access to the One Young World Global Kickstart programme.

• Candidates must be young leaders aged 18 to 30 at the time of the One Young World Summit.
• Candidates must be nationals and residents of any African countries with demonstrated AI solutions in Africa.
• Candidates must have demonstrated capacity for leadership and promoting the responsible use of AI.
• Candidates must have a track record of generating impactful and innovative solutions using AI to address one or more of the five listed pillars.
• Applications from candidates whose causes may not exactly fit one of the five pillars will be considered if using AI positively and responsibly to drive their work.
• Candidates must demonstrate understanding of key local and/or global issues.
• Candidates must be willing to engage with fellow scholarship recipients and Brandtech Group staff/management who are attending the Summit.
• Applicants who will be aged under 18 at the time of the Summit cannot be accepted.
• The One Young World team will consider candidates older than 30, pending demonstration of appropriate personal impact, initiative, and willingness to engage.
