Early Career Researchers Spring School

The University of Fort Hare and the CGIAR Climate Security team at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT invite early career researchers based in South Africa to a three-day Spring School exploring climate, peace and security. It is organised in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of the Free State, with the stated aim of building interdisciplinary learning, practical training, fieldwork, and regional networking.

The programme is open to early career researchers, including Master’s and PhD students, postdoctoral research fellows, and young professionals. It welcomes applicants working in environmental science, peace and conflict studies, political science, migration, sociology, development studies, and related fields. Applicants must currently live in South Africa, and women and applicants from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Selection is based on applications submitted through an online form, along with a current CV and a cover letter explaining interest and how the Spring School relates to the applicant’s research or professional work. Travel, accommodation and meals are covered for selected participants.

The Spring School runs over three days at the University of Fort Hare’s East London Campus in South Africa. For the selected participants, travel, accommodation, and meals are covered. No further obligations after the programme are stated.
