Hauwa Ojeifo Scholarship

The Hauwa Ojeifo Scholarship is intended to support young leaders working on urgent, interconnected challenges facing women and girls. It is delivered by One Young World in partnership with the Hauwa Ojeifo Global Impact Fund for Women & Girls, with the fund described as working to strengthen systems of care for the health and wellbeing for women and girls.

The scholarship is aimed at sixteen emerging young leaders committed to addressing challenges affecting women and girls. Applicants must align their leadership or initiative impact with at least one theme, and they must live and make an impact in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East. The scholarship includes access to programmes associated with One Young World.

Selection is based on candidate criteria, including age, leadership involvement or initiative work, alignment to specified themes, living and impact location, and willingness to engage with fellow scholarship recipients. If a candidate is longlisted, they may be invited to submit additional documentation, including references.

Scholars receive access to participate in the One Young World Summit, lifelong membership of the One Young World Ambassador Community, access to the One Young World Global Leadership Programme and Action Accelerator, hotel accommodation for the Summit duration, return travel from the country of residence to Cape Town (economy flights), catering during the Summit, and transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue. There is also an opportunity to apply for grant funding of up to $25,000 USD.

• Young leader age range: aged 18 to 30 at the time of the One Young World Summit.
• Age exclusion: the organisers are not able to accept applications from those who will be aged under 18 at the time of the One Young World Summit.
• Age flexibility: the organisers will consider candidates older than 30, pending demonstration of appropriate personal impact, initiative, and willingness to engage.
• Leadership/impact requirement: leadership role, or working in an organisation, or championing a personal initiative with proven impact in a field aligned with at least one listed theme.
• The aligned themes must include at least one of the following: Mental Health including neurodivergence and developmental differences; Domestic & Sexual Violence; Disability Rights & the rights of older people; Gynaecological Health & Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights; Maternal and Child Health; Issues of the Girl Child (including FGM, Child-Adolescent Pregnancy & Child Marriage); Non-Communicable Diseases.
• Location requirement: applicants must live and make an impact in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East.
• Engagement requirement: willingness to engage with fellow scholarship recipients.
