The One Young World Leading Scholarship is designed to identify and support outstanding young leaders from countries that are often under-represented at global forums and decision-making spaces. One Young World aims to make the Summit accessible to young leaders from almost every country, selecting scholars based on proven leadership and the ability to create change in their home country.
Applicants must be young leaders who are devising meaningful strategies to build a more sustainable world and must have an evidenced commitment to delivering positive change while addressing key local and/or global issues. The scholarship is aimed at outstanding young leaders from countries often under-represented at global forums and decision-making spaces; the Summit is held in Cape Town, South Africa, with the scholarship tied to attending the Summit.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and scholars are selected on a rolling basis. Notification is sent via email to selected candidates during a window stated on the page. Priority is given to applicants from countries that have been less represented at previous One Young World Summits and to first-time Summit attendees (not One Young World Ambassadors). No feedback is provided for non-selection, and emails about outcomes cannot be answered individually.
Selected scholars receive full delegate access, catering (breakfast, lunch, dinner), access to the One Young World Global Leadership Programme and Action Accelerator, and membership of the One Young World Ambassador Community with access to exclusive regional events and opportunities. Whether transport and accommodation are provided is determined case by case for each scholar. If a visa is required for South Africa, the visa fee and related visa application costs are paid by the participant.
