One Young World Pernod Ricard Scholarship

The scholarship identifies and connects an interdisciplinary team of 10 committed young leaders to build positive social spaces and tackle harmful drinking and its wider impacts in their countries and communities. It is funded by Pernod Ricard in partnership with One Young World, aiming to encourage positive social occasions and address harmful drinking.

Successful applicants are people who share the ambition to promote positive social occasions and tackle harmful drinking through their own projects, work and experience in larger organisations, personal work, or research that contributes to collective understanding. This can include those working in the hospitality sector with responsible drinking or consumer information responsibilities, or those contributing to other fields working on inclusive and safe spaces.

Selection is based on candidates’ ability and interest in contributing to post-Summit collective thinking sessions, along with their impact in support of the scholarship goals through relevant initiatives. The support includes participation as part of Pernod Ricard’s delegation, plus hotel accommodation in Cape Town for the Summit period, travel costs to and from Cape Town, catering, transport between accommodation and venue, access to Pernod Ricard professionals, and collaboration with other scholars. After the Summit, scholars must commit to contribute to post-Summit collective thinking sessions, with time that includes group sessions before the Summit, a physical meeting in Cape Town alongside the Summit, and additional meetings after the Summit during the year following it.

• Applicants must be actively making an impact in support of these goals through their own projects, emerging leadership in larger organisations, their own work and experience, or contributing to collective understanding through research.
• Relevant activity can include initiatives that promote balance and moderation.
• Relevant activity can include prevention and education initiatives to reduce excessive alcohol consumption.
• Relevant activity can include prevention initiatives to reduce social harm.
• Relevant activity can include projects that tackle harmful impacts of excessive alcohol consumption.
• Relevant activity can include projects that bring together communities, reflect on social inclusion and fighting isolation, and support inclusive and safe spaces for people to come together.
• Relevant activity can include projects that improve physical and psychological safety in social environments.
• Relevant activity can include research into habits and behavioural patterns of Gen Z and trends in socialising, including the role of alcohol in that socialising.
• Applicants must be of legal drinking age in their country of residence at the time of their application, up to the age of 35.
• Applicants must be available to contribute to collective post-Summit thinking sessions alongside other scholarship recipients.

• Participation in the One Young World Summit in Cape Town as a Pernod Ricard delegate.
• Hotel accommodation in Cape Town between 2 November and 6 November (inclusive) during the Summit period.
• Cost of travel to and from Cape Town (flights in economy).
• Catering including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
• Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
• Access to Pernod Ricard professionals on the basis of needs and consultancy.
• Opportunity to collaborate with other scholars to influence Pernod Ricard’s thinking on socialising and efforts to reduce excessive alcohol consumption, including participation in collective sessions with guest speakers.
• Post-Summit collective thinking sessions to reflect on challenges and solutions for promoting responsible drinking globally, including possible external guest speakers and opportunities to share ideas, experiences, and recommendations.
