Bachelor of Arts External Degree

The Bachelor of Arts External Degree at the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka is an external degree programme with studies across prescribed subjects. Learners take units drawn from Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Culture, Sanskrit, Sinhala, English, Archaeology, Religious Studies and Comparative Philosophy, Tamil, Buddhist Social Works, and Buddhist Psychology and Counselling.

The programme is assessed through three examinations labeled I Examination, II Examination, and III Examination. Course fee is listed per examination, plus a total course fee. This programme is designed for both local and foreign students, with entry based on specific educational qualifications and, for local applicants, results in Ordinary Level and required distinctions.

For Local Students

• Should have passed Prachina Prarambha.
• Should have passed three subjects at the Advanced Level examination in any subject stream and obtained a minimum of 30 marks in the Common General Test. (Passing the Advanced Level examination with a Buddhist subject, or with one of the subjects such as Pali, Sanskrit, Sinhala, or History, will be considered a special qualification.)
• Should have obtained a degree from a recognized university (local or international) or possess any other qualification accepted by the senate of this university as equivalent to the above.
• Should have passed Higher Diploma in Buddhism / Pali / Sanskrit / English / Tamil / Buddhist Heritage conducted by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
• Should have passed the Daham Sarasaviya Diploma in Buddhism conducted by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka or University of Sri Jayewardenepura and gained teaching experience at a Dhamma School.
• Or should have at least two years of permanent teaching experience as a school teacher or a Pirivena teacher (With basic qualifications)
• Should have passed any other examination that the Senate of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka considers equivalent to the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination.

For Foreign Students

• Should have obtained one of the above qualifications specified under 1-7 for local students.
• Must have passed the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination conducted by the University of London or hold any other equivalent qualifications accepted by the Senate of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.

Note

All local applicants must pass the final examination or the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) examination with six subjects, including Sinhala or Tamil, and achieve at least three distinctions.
