Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP)

The Swedish Institute awards academic scholarships for master’s studies in Sweden to global professionals from a selection of countries. Svenska institutet states the scholarship is intended to support full-time, one- or two-year master’s studies at Swedish universities across a range of English-taught programmes, including Governance, Public Health, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and STEM.

The scholarship is open to applicants who are citizens of one of the eligible countries listed for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, and who apply for a master’s programme that is eligible for the SI scholarship. Svenska institutet’s eligibility section also states that applicants do not need to reside in their country of citizenship at the time of application.

Svenska institutet states the scholarship is competitive and requires meeting the eligibility conditions for citizenship, eligible master’s programmes, university admissions status, work experience, and leadership experience. The page indicates that SI screening and evaluation details are available under “How to Apply – SI Screening and Evaluation” once the call is open.

Svenska institutet states the scholarship supports the study period for the awarded master’s programme (full-time, one- or two-year master’s studies). After the scholarship period ends, the recipient becomes a member of the Sweden Alumni Network for continued networking and professional development. Svenska institutet also states the scholarship does not include insurance, does not provide additional grants for family members, and does not allow changes to the awarded scholarship period or extensions.

• Citizenship: applicant must be a citizen of one of the 34 eligible countries listed.
• Residence: applicant does not need to reside in the country of citizenship at the time of application.
• Dual citizenship: if dual citizenships are both eligible, choose only one citizenship when applying; using dual citizenship to submit more than one application results in disqualification of all applications.
• Master’s programme: applicant must apply for a master’s programme eligible for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals.
• University admissions: applicant must be liable to pay tuition fees at University Admissions, follow the steps of University Admissions, and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s programmes on the day of admissions announcements.
• Admission restriction: scholarships can only be awarded for the master’s programme the applicant is admitted to on the first admissions day; programmes where the applicant is listed as a reserve cannot be considered; there are no scholarships available for late admissions.
• Work experience: applicant must have demonstrated work experience, including full-time or part-time employment (for example as an employee, freelancer, or employer), and must be able to prove certification using template forms during the application period.
• Work experience priority/requirements by region: applicants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine must provide proof of work experience and more experience will be prioritised.
• Work experience requirement by region: applicants from Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Zambia must have at least 3,000 hours of work experience (the page also states the hours must be accumulated from a maximum of three employers).
• Work experience timing: applicant must be able to ensure leave of absence if currently employed (SI states it will not intervene in this matter).
• Leadership experience: applicant must have demonstrated leadership experience from a current or previous employer, or from civil society engagement.

• Full tuition fee coverage: SI pays the fee directly to the Swedish university each semester.
• Monthly allowance: SEK 12,000 to cover living expenses throughout the study period.
• Travel grant: SEK 15,000 as a one-time payment; SEK 10,000 for scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
• Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals (NFGP).
• After the scholarship period ends: membership in the Sweden Alumni Network for continued networking and professional development.

1. Apply to Swedish master’s programmes through University Admissions during the application period stated for University Admissions.
2. Submit an SI Scholarship application during the SI Scholarships application portal window stated on the page (including the stated closing time on the final day).
3. Follow the SI application instructions and requirements provided on SI’s application page during the application period (including use of the template forms for work experience certification).
