Master in Business Innovation Mbi

The Master in Business Innovation (MBI) at Universität St. Gallen (HSG) trains students for modern business roles in the context of digitalization and value creation. The program focuses on developing reflective intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs, and on using the opportunities of digital transformation. It includes foundations in business innovation, analysis, and the implementation of business models.

The program starts with an MBI Kick-off offsite with four days of learning and community building before the start of the semester. It includes required courses totaling 15 credits, covering foundations of business innovation, Business Innovation I and II, and research methods for business innovation. A flexible elective choice covers 27–39 credits, with six optional profiles.

The program is designed for people interested in questioning existing approaches, changing what is needed, and creating new solutions. It also supports different career paths, including corporate roles in digitalization, start-up and venture positions involving new business potential, and an academic career leading to doctoral-level continuation in the Business Innovation focus.

An admission requires a degree that is recognized as equivalent, completed in a field-equivalent or field-near program related to business administration, with at least 180 credits.

• Foreign students are admitted “sur dossier”.
• Depending on the similarity of the applicant’s degree, students may need to complete an integration week or a Master preparatory stage before starting the master’s program.
• Additional admission requirements may apply.

• Corporate career: MBI alumni work across industries in the context of digitalization, such as extending existing business fields and establishing new ones.
• Start-up career: MBI alumni found companies or take positions in start-up or venture areas to create new business potential and scalable business models.
• Academic career: The program provides a basis for a research career in an academic setting, with continuation at doctoral level in the Business Innovation focus (PMA).
