Bachelor of Science in Economics

The Bachelor of Science in Economics (course code: ECO) is offered by the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. The program focuses on economics as a discipline and includes study of how an economic system operates. It covers demand and supply in price determination, competition and monopoly, antitrust regulations, and the role of money and its effects on the economy.

Students also study measurement of production, employment, and income, and current methods of economic analysis used for demand management and supply-side economic policies to stabilize growth. The program connects international economics to the domestic economy in a globalized world and develops skills including communication skills, gender and production relations, entrepreneurship, financial management, information technology, and project planning and management.

• Direct Entry: Two principal passes at A’level with at least one being either in Economics or Entrepreneurship or Mathematics and a credit in Mathematics at UCE or Subsidiary Mathematics at A’level
• Diploma Entry: Hold UDBS or ODBS or HFM Diploma recognized by the University and must have completed at least level one of CPA, ACCA, or CIMA
