Bachelor of Science in Food Bioscience and Agribusiness

The Bachelor of Science in Food Bioscience and Agribusiness (GFA) covers postharvest management, processing, and adding value to primary food produce. It also focuses on agribusiness by building skills to identify opportunities in the agri-food sector and to plan, establish, and manage profitable own agri-food enterprises.

The programme is delivered on weekdays over four years, with two semesters per year. Each year includes two semesters of 17 weeks each, made up of 15 weeks of classes and two weeks of examinations, plus one recess term of 10 weeks for the first three years. Graduation requires practical skills training, field attachment, and special project reports, alongside classroom coursework that totals 191 cumulative credit units and a CGPA of not less than 2.0.

Principal passes in any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture, Foods and Nutrition, Physics and Mathematics obtained at the same sitting.

Admission to the first year is through direct entry, mature age scheme, or diploma entry scheme.

• Direct entry: passes in five approved subjects in the Uganda Certificate of Education or its equivalent, and a principal pass in two essential subjects at Advanced Level at the same sitting.

• Essential Advanced Level subjects (for computing entry points): Any two best done of Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture, Food & Nutrition, Physics and Mathematics (weighted 3.0).

• Desirable Advanced Level subjects: General Paper and Sub-mathematics or Sub-Computer (weighted 1.0).

• Mature age entry scheme: admission after passing the appropriate Mature Age Entry Examination.

• Diploma entry scheme: admission with a National Diploma (or equivalent) of at least a Second Class standing in agriculture, animal husbandry, veterinary, crop husbandry, or other related disciplines from recognized institutions.

• Work in various agri-food industry-related establishments.
• Provide advisory services in the agri-food sector.
• Advance an educational career in the agri-food sector through postgraduate training in related fields such as food biosciences, agribusiness, agricultural and food economics, agricultural and applied economics and business administration.
