Diploma in Home Economics Vocational Education Secondary Dvhes

The Diploma in Home Economics Vocational Education Secondary (DVHES) at Kyambogo University is a pre-service diploma programme aimed at “A” level leavers who want a career in vocational studies in Home Economics. Students study nutrition, textile science and care, garment design and construction, applied science in the home, computing, communication skills and humanities, educational psychology and foundations of education, and foundations of vocational studies.

The programme is full-time and lasts two years, organized into four semesters. Students take courses in Years I and II and complete school/institution practice during recess terms. Each academic year includes school practice totaling 12 weeks, split into two blocks of 6 weeks each in various educational institutions across the country.

A candidate must meet one of the following requirements:

• Hold the Uganda Certificate of Education (‘0’ level) with at least five credits in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Home Economics subjects, obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent; AND, Hold the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (‘A’ level) with at least one principal pass and two subsidiaries for science subjects, and Arts subjects with clothing and textiles, obtained at the same sitting.
• Hold at least a Credit Grade III Teachers’ Certificate; with at least five (5) passes at ‘0’ in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Home Economics subjects.
• Holds recognized relevant two years Diploma/Certificate in a Home Economics related field.
