Master of Science Degree in International Infectious Disease Management At Makerere University

The Master of Science degree in International Infectious Disease Management focuses on managing trans-boundary infectious diseases and zoonoses, which affect animal and human health, trade, food security, and socio-economic wellbeing. It is described as an Africa–United States joint effort developed between Makerere University and North Dakota State University to address integrated disease management and international biosecurity.

The development was supported by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, Higher Education Challenge program. The grant funded four graduate students’ stipends and research. The curriculum development also involved additional support through the Capacity building in Integrated Management of Transboundary Animal Diseases and Zoonoses project, including short-term training workshops at The International Scientific Boma and a conference in Uganda, plus student exchange and joint mentorship.
