Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering

The Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering at Gulu University develops specialised knowledge and skills in food processing, water resources, or renewable energy sectors. Graduates are expected to apply high-level technical, managerial, and professional skills for sustainable development, and to conduct high-level research that generates new knowledge and informs policies in their chosen specialisation.

The programme is full-time and combines coursework with research. It runs for four semesters, and includes industrial collaboration of 75 contact hours, plus a dissertation. Students start industrial collaboration and develop their research projects during the coursework period to support timely completion, and they write and defend a research proposal before final approval.

Entry is for candidates with an honours bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering or science fields. The programme also requires students to deliver courses or tutorials to undergraduate classes under close supervision of lecturers.

Bachelors’ Degree in any of the following fields: Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Science (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, Geology), Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and related disciplines from a recognised Institution.

Candidates applying for admission to MSc (BSE) must fulfil the general requirements for admission to Gulu University and those for the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment. In addition, applicants to the MSc (BSE) shall possess honours Bachelors’ Degree in any of the following fields: Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Science (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, Geology), Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and related disciplines. An applicant who may have been on a similar programme in another university can transfer his/her credits obtained from that university for admission to this programme. This is only when the academic system and standard of that university is comparable to that of Gulu University. The maximum transferable credits should not exceed 40% of the minimum requirement for the award. In case of transfer, all other university regulations shall apply.
