Gulu University Uganda TAGDev 2.0 Scholarships

The Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) programme is implemented by RUFORUM in partnership with Mastercard Foundation and multiple partner universities, including Gulu University. Its stated purpose is to strengthen universities and TVET institutions to better serve communities by skilling and empowering Africa’s young people and their institutions to drive inclusive, equitable and climate-resilient transformation of agriculture and agrifood systems. The scholarship supports young African students who are economically disadvantaged but academically competent to access university education.

The scholarship is open to both female and male applicants. Females, refugees, internally displaced persons, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants must be interested in and eligible to study specified bachelor’s and master’s programmes at Gulu University, including Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Food Bioscience and Agribusiness, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Business Education, and selected Master of Science programmes in agriculture and related fields at Gulu University.

Selection criteria include: being a national of Uganda and East African countries implementing the common East Africa Higher Education Protocol; being economically disadvantaged, from marginalized communities, and/or coming from conflict and post-conflict areas in Uganda; meeting age limits for undergraduate and master’s applicants at the time of the call; having completed secondary school and/or diploma for bachelor’s applicants within the stated time window; being able to qualify for admission into the eligible programmes at Gulu University; demonstrating interest in agriculture, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship; demonstrating leadership qualities; showing commitment to working in agriculture and agricultural value chains; and showing commitment to community transformation.

Support is a comprehensive scholarship described as full board and covering direct and indirect costs. Scholarships are renewed on an annual basis subject to satisfactory academic performance at grade B level of Gulu University. Retaking more than four courses leads to withdrawal of the scholarship. Applicants who are discovered to have falsified information to gain advantage may have their scholarship affected. Additional support is provided for RDPs and PWDs, including travel documents for RDPs and assistive devices for PWDs during studies.

• National of Uganda and East African countries implementing the common East Africa Higher Education Protocol (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan).
• Ability to qualify for admission into undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes at Gulu University.
• Must read and thoroughly understand the admission criteria for the relevant programmes at Gulu University.
• Must meet Gulu University admission criteria for the eligible programmes.
• Age requirement: less than 30 years for undergraduate and less than 35 years for masters studies at the time of this call.
• For bachelor’s degree applications: completed secondary school and/or diploma not more than two years from the time of this call.
• For refugees and internally displaced persons: completed their studies at the previous level at most four years before.
• Demonstrate interest in agriculture, agribusiness and entrepreneurship.
• Demonstrate leadership qualities.
• Have commitment to working in agriculture and agricultural value chains.
• Have a strong commitment to community transformation.
• Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
• Students already having a scholarship of any kind are not eligible to benefit from this scholarship opportunity.
• Anyone with a double scholarship will be automatically discontinued.
• Former beneficiaries of TAGDev Scholarships are not eligible to apply.
