The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP)

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) is a partnership between Makerere University and The MasterCard Foundation to offer scholarships to academically bright but economically disadvantaged youth from Africa to study at Makerere University. The project is described as worth US $ 20,989,965.15, implemented at Makerere University, and aimed at developing the next generation of African Leaders while supporting Makerere University’s and The MasterCard Foundation’s strategic objectives in Africa’s higher education sector and development.

The programme offers scholarships to 1,000 youth from Africa and is implemented at Makerere University under the leadership of the Planning and Development Directorate. The programme is described as providing comprehensive student support, including tuition and functional fees, a laptop, books and other learning materials, accommodation, beddings and meals, medical insurance, a stipend, transport to and from home, and psychosocial and mentorship support.

It also includes capacity building training in leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, gender and human rights.
