Project Description – Intelligent Social Robots in Human Behavioural Analysis
The aim of this project is to develop a relatively unexplored field of research where an Ambient Intelligence (AmI) environment is integrated with intelligent social robots to support elderly and / or disabled people with their daily activities. Based on AmI sensory devices including computer vision systems, users’ behavioral patterns will be initially inferred and they will be used by a team of cooperating intelligent robots aim at preventing possible angerous situations by interacting with user or careers. The human behavioural analysis module and robot intelligence will be designed through innovative computational intelligence methodologies including TA-based Fuzzy Systems and TD Neural Networks.
This project has been selected for consideration for a fully-funded Vice-Chancellor’s PhD bursary at Nottingham Trent University, twelve PhD projects will be funded across the University in 2014.
BSc/BEng or MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
The studentships will pay UK/EU fees and provide a maintenance stipend linked to the RCUK rate (currently £13,726 per annum) for up to three years. Applications from non-EU students are welcome, but a successful candidate would be responsible for paying the difference between non-EU and UK/EU fees. (Fees for 2013/14 are £11,600 for non-EU students and £3,900 for UK/EU students.)
Applications can be accepted from UK/EU and also International students. The minimum English language proficiency requirement for candidates who have not undertaken a higher degree at a UK HE institution is IELTS 6.5 (with no element to be below 6.0) or TOEFL 560/iBT 94 – 95.
