The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.) at American University in Dubai prepares students for professional careers in mechanical engineering, with emphasis on energy systems, mechatronics and control, and manufacturing engineering. The program includes mechanical engineering electives that can cover areas such as internal combustion engines and turbo-machinery, engineering aerodynamics, computer-aided mechanical design, computational fluid dynamics, and design of robotic systems.
The program is a four-year, 137 credit-hours degree. Core subjects are split into Mathematics/Natural Sciences, Arts and Sciences, and Mechanical Engineering. Students complete required credit and also choose 9–15 credit hours of mechanical engineering electives. Learning includes on-going field experience and an interdisciplinary capstone design project, and the program provides laboratory facilities such as fluid mechanics and materials/structures labs.
