PhD Fellow Nasser Zalmout in Computer Science at New York University Abu Dhabi works in a natural language processing team that aims to develop tools to address the Arabic translation problem. His work focuses on Arabic language complexities, including ambiguity, where a given word can have up to 12 different interpretations on average. With his mentor, Associate Professor of Computer Science Nizar Habash, he develops tools for processing Arabic and its dialects, including Emirati, Egyptian, Palestinian, and others, to support both formal Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic) and regional dialects.
