The Associate Student programme at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London lets students study at SOAS for a short time without studying full-time or following a specific degree, certificate or diploma. Associate Students can choose to take one or a maximum of 3 modules at either the undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Associate Students are fully integrated SOAS students with access to events and facilities, but they are not expected to take any assessments unless they choose to. Modules can be studied on campus, and certain language modules are available via distance learning. A full year course counts as one 30 credits, and a course running in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 counts as 15 credits.
The programme requires applicants to demonstrate the potential to be able to study at undergraduate level. If a student requires a student visa to study in the UK, they will not be able to apply for the Associate student programme. Applicants must submit the Associate Student application form.

Note regarding student visas: if you require a student visa to study in the UK, you will not be able to apply for an Associate student programme. If you currently hold a student visa for study at another institution you will not be permitted to register as an Associate Student at SOAS.
Applicants complete the Associate Student application form.
