The BSc (Hons) Construction Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship at Southampton Solent University helps apprentices build quantity surveying skills while working in construction. The course covers cost management fundamentals and applies them in different contexts within the built environment. Modules include economics and financial management, estimating and tendering, sustainability, technology of complex buildings, construction management, contracts management, project evaluation and development, and quantity surveying practice.
Learning combines directed, collaborative, and guided learning, supported by Solent Online Learning (SOL). Apprentices are assessed through coursework, assignments, individual and group projects, practical activities, reports, written exams, a final major project, and individual presentations, alongside occupational standards assessments. The apprenticeship includes workplace application of learning, regular progress reviews with an apprenticeship coach, and an end-point assessment. It leads to chartered membership of the Chartered Institute Of Building (MCIOB) without the need for further assessment.
