About this program

Liverpool John Moores University’s Doctor of Engineering DOC is a Professional Doctorate in Engineering taught part-time for candidates who hold senior professional or leadership roles. The programme advances professional practice through the application and development of theoretical frameworks, and it is structured with Masters and Doctoral phases. Candidates join at Doctoral level (FHEQ Level 8) and study core modules such as Research Planning, Reflective Research Strategy, and Literature Review.

The EngD at LJMU is delivered through a structured programme of seven integrated modules, culminating in a single thesis at the same level as a PhD. LJMU positions research around live, industry-focused projects, undertaken with guidance from academic supervisors and, where possible, industry partners. Students also complete the Doctoral Skills Programme to gain the award.
