Liverpool John Moores University’s Doctor of Health Psychology DOC (DHealthPsych Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology) is a professional doctorate in Health Psychology. It meets the requirements for BPS Stage Two training in Health Psychology and leads to eligibility for registration with the HCPC. Students develop skills in teaching and training, behaviour change interventions, research, consultancy, and demonstrating generic professional skills needed to qualify in this field.
The programme runs full-time for 27 months. Teaching takes place on Thursdays (mostly fortnightly) in scheduled slots from January to May/June and September to December in year one, plus ad hoc sessions in subsequent years. Learning is supported through a suitable pre-determined placement (paid or voluntary), job-role based learning, taught sessions, and extensive supervision. Assessment includes a log and diary of professional practice, case studies, reflections on each competence, a viva voce examination, and publishable papers for peer-reviewed journals.
On completion, students are BPS accredited for Stage 2 Training in Health Psychology for applicants with BPS Graduate Basis for Chartered Status (GBC), providing a qualification that meets Stage 2 training requirements. The programme also supports career opportunities in the health industry, healthcare provision, teaching, and research.
