Southampton Solent University’s Quantity Surveying BSc (Hons) focuses on construction cost management, covering topics from tendering and project bids to analysing cash flow and managing contracts. You study core modules such as Legal and Statutory Requirements, Construction Practice, Construction Science and Materials, Innovating the Construction Project, Principles of Quantity Surveying, and Technology of Buildings.
The course uses practical learning in construction materials laboratories, supported by a dedicated drawing studio and industry-standard software. Work experience and placements are not mandatory, but the course team strongly encourages students to complete it where possible using industry links. You can study the course part-time, and you can also follow a STEM foundation year route if you do not have relevant qualifications or experience.
On completion, the degree is designed to help you start a career in cost management in the construction industry, including assistant quantity surveyor, assistant commercial manager, or assistant contracts manager.
