Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Masters Scholarships

The University of Sheffield, in collaboration with the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, offers these master's scholarships to support international students from developing countries on courses linked to the Sheffield Institute for International Development. The award reflects the University of Sheffield's commitment to international development and to work that improves the lives of others through international relationships.

The scholarship is for eligible overseas fee-paying students on one of five master's programmes: International Development MSc, International Law and Global Justice LLM, International Political Economy MA, Global Journalism MA, and International Public and Political Communication MA. Applicants must be permanently domiciled in one of the listed low or lower middle income countries and must begin study at the University of Sheffield.

Selection is competitive. Shortlisted applicants are chosen from course applications by a panel of senior staff, which looks for a strong academic profile, a clear reason for applying, relevant work experience in International Development, and clear future ambitions linked to the degree and to benefiting others. Where applications are equal, priority goes to under represented groups.

• Must hold an offer for one of these University of Sheffield courses: International Development MSc, International Law and Global Justice LLM, International Political Economy MA, Global Journalism MA, or International Public and Political Communication MA.
• Must be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
• Must not already hold a qualification at an equivalent or higher level to the course applied for, including online study.
• Must not have previously studied outside the country of residence.
• Must be self-funded and not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity, or any similar organisation.
• Must not receive this scholarship alongside any other funding award from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
• Mode of attendance must be full-time.
• Must begin studies at the University of Sheffield in the stated intake and cannot defer.
• Must meet any conditions attached to the course offer by the deadline set by the Admissions Service.
• Must receive a visa to study at the University.
• Must be permanently domiciled in one of the listed eligible countries or territories.
• Applicant must be from a country classified by the World Bank as low or lower middle income.

• Full tuition fee waiver.
• Maintenance stipend of GBP 12,500.
