Birmingham Masters Scholarships

The University of Birmingham offers the Birmingham Masters Scholarship as part of its £1.4 million scholarship commitment to Home postgraduate students. The award value is £3,000, provided through a tuition fee discount, to support applicants commencing their Masters study with the University of Birmingham.

The scholarship is open to Home fee-paying students who have not previously studied at the University of Birmingham. Applicants must be commencing an eligible Masters degree in January or September. Priority is given to applicants who have graduated from one of the Midlands-based universities, and the scholarship covers specific taught Masters programmes delivered at the University’s Edgbaston Campus, Stratford-upon-Avon, partnered institutions, or by distance learning.

Eligibility to receive the scholarship is determined by a University selection panel based primarily on academic performance in applicants’ previous studies, and also on professional qualifications and achievements. The scheme has three rounds, with deadlines for each round, and reserve applicants do not need to re-apply because their application is carried over into following rounds. If you accept an offer, you must complete the acceptance form and then accept your study offer and complete online registration to receive the tuition fee waiver.

• Students of any nationality can apply provided they are eligible for Home fee status and intending to study an eligible Masters course in January or September 2026
• Domiciled in the UK or Ireland (students recorded as Home for fee status purposes are eligible)
• Self-funded, or applying for a postgraduate government loan to pay fees and living expenses
• Not already registered on a postgraduate programme (applicants must not currently be enrolled on a postgraduate degree course)
• Commencing an 180-credits Masters course in an eligible subject
• Eligible courses listed: LLM; MA (Taught); MSc (Pre-reg); MSc (Taught); MPH; MEd; MBA; MPA
• Ineligible courses listed: MA/MSc by Research; MRes (combined taught and research); Integrated Masters degrees (such as MSci, MEng and MBChB etc.); Intercalated Masters degrees; Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip); Postgraduate Certificates (PGCert); Postgraduate Research programmes (such as PhDs, PhDs with integrated study, EngD); Postgraduate taught degrees that receive governmental funding (such as a NHS bursary or undergraduate tuition fee loans); Schools Direct programmes; Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses; LLB for Graduates; Programmes delivered at the University of Birmingham’s Dubai Campus; All top-up programmes
• International students: No (funding aims to support Home fee-paying students progressing onto taught Masters study)

• £3,000 tuition fee discount (fee waiver applied directly to tuition fees)

1. Apply to your intended Masters programme through the relevant programme page on the Course finder section of the University of Birmingham website, including all relevant supporting documentation: references, transcripts if available, and English language certification if applicable.
2. Complete the Birmingham Masters Scholarships application form by the scholarship deadline.
3. Enter the application ID number given during your Masters programme application. If you do not input the correct ID number, your scholarship application may be void or delayed in processing.
4. Select the appropriate round; the scheme has three rounds with deadlines for round one, round two, and round three.
5. If you are made a reserve in a round, you do not need to re-apply because your application will be automatically carried over into the following rounds.
6. If you are offered the scholarship, complete the acceptance form in your awarding email by the deadline stated in the email. After accepting, accept your study offer and complete online registration to receive the £3,000 tuition fee waiver.
