University of Birmingham Europe Postgraduate Chancellors Scholarship

The University of Birmingham Europe Postgraduate Chancellor's Scholarships are described as a number of scholarships worth up to £10,000 towards tuition fees for students commencing a full-time postgraduate taught Masters programme. The University states the scholarships are intended for international-fee-paying students from select European countries and are awarded on the basis of academic merit.

The scholarship is aimed at applicants who are either domiciled in France, Germany, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, or Sweden, or who are current students or alumni from partner institutes in Europe: KU Leuven, Leiden University, Lund University, University College Dublin, University of Amsterdam, University of Helsinki, University of Paris-Saclay, and University of Zurich. Applicants must have an offer for a full-time postgraduate programme starting September at the University of Birmingham’s UK campus.

The University states awards are made based on academic excellence and academic merit. Decisions are announced in late July/early August, and the scholarships are awarded upon enrolment in September. The University also states applications are reviewed and marked after their respective deadlines, and successful applicants will be contacted typically within 3–4 weeks after the scholarship application deadline has passed.

The University explains the tuition fee reduction is applied directly to the first year of study on a full-time programme delivered at its Birmingham, UK campus. By accepting the award, the scholar agrees to support the University through activities including future student visits and being available for testimonials/photos/videos for marketing purposes, and engaging in other activities such as blogging (if required). The scholarship is only tenable for one year and cannot be deferred.

• Must be classed by the University as an international fee payer for tuition fee purposes.
• Must be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship.
• Must have received an offer for a full-time postgraduate programme starting September 2026 at the University of Birmingham’s UK campus.
• Must accept an unconditional offer by the deadline of 30 June 2026, including paying the £3,000 deposit by that deadline.
• Must be studying an eligible 180-credit postgraduate taught degree in the 2026/27 academic year as listed by the University.
• Must meet the academic conditions of their offer to the programme.
• Must be domiciled in one of the eligible countries, or be a current student or alumni from one of the listed partner institutes in Europe.
• Must have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.
• Programmes delivered at the University of Birmingham’s Dubai campus are not eligible.
• Distance-learning (online) and postgraduate research programmes are not eligible (examples given include MPhil, MRes and PhDs).
• Students already registered and studying on a Masters programme at the University of Birmingham in the UK are not eligible.
• Only full-time postgraduate taught 180-credit Masters degrees are eligible; the University lists ineligible course types, including MA/MSc by Research, MRes (combined taught and research), Integrated Masters degrees (examples given include MSci, MEng and MBChB, and MBChB etc.), Intercalated Masters degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip), Postgraduate Certificates (PGCert), Postgraduate Research programmes (examples given include PhDs, PhDs with integrated study, EngD), postgraduate taught degrees that receive governmental funding (example given includes an NHS bursary or undergraduate tuition fee loans), Schools Direct programmes, Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses, LLB for Graduates, programmes delivered at the Dubai campus, and all top-up programmes.
• Students of all nationalities can apply if they meet the domiciled-in or partner-institute current student/alumni requirement and are classified as an international student for tuition fee payments for an eligible 180-credit postgraduate taught Masters commencing in September 2026.

• Tuition fee reduction worth up to £10,000, applied directly as a tuition fee reduction for the successful awardees’ first year of study on a full-time programme delivered at the University of Birmingham’s Birmingham, UK campus.

1. Submit an application to study one of the eligible courses before applying for the scholarship.
2. Complete the linked scholarship application form.
3. Provide information in the form about undergraduate studies (in progress or completed) and the postgraduate course applied for.
4. After awards are made, accept the scholarship using the acceptance form in the awarding email by the deadline included in that email.
5. After accepting the scholarship, accept the study offer and complete online registration to receive the tuition fee waiver (delays in completing online registration may delay scholarship payment).
