University of Sheffield UK Siddall Sheffield Scholarship

The University of Sheffield presents the Siddall Sheffield Scholarship, funded through a donation from Mrs Brenda and Dr Graham Siddall. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence and covers the full tuition fee for a one-year Engineering Masters plus a stipend of £18,000, bringing the stated total value of the award to around £50,000.

The scholarship is open to US citizens, with additional eligibility that includes being a US citizen who has formerly studied in the US, a non-UK resident and not lived in the UK. Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree in a relevant field and be successfully accepted to study one of the one-year full-time Masters programmes in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield by the time the scholarship is awarded.

Selection is based on academic merit (50%, based on information in the application), contribution to research in the Faculty of Engineering (25%, shown through a 500 word proposal for a project in a specific research area), and civic engagement (25%, shown through a 500 word essay). Shortlisted candidates are invited to take part in an online interview.

The programme must commence at the University of Sheffield in Autumn. The maintenance award is paid in four equal instalments. The scholarship cannot be deferred and may be suspended if the student takes a period of leave of absence. The recipient is expected to provide a pre-arrival report and an end-of-course report to the donors; the University may also ask the recipient to appear in external-facing publicity materials, with personal details only shared with prior consent.

• Must hold a Bachelor degree in a relevant field before departure to the UK.
• Must have a preferred GPA of 3.7 or higher.
• Must be successfully accepted to study one of the one-year full-time Masters programmes in the Faculty of Engineering by the time the scholarship is awarded.
• For tuition fee purposes, must be self-funded and required to pay the overseas tuition fee.
• Must not be a sponsored student.
• Must receive an offer to study one of the one-year full-time Masters programmes in the Faculty of Engineering by the time the scholarship is awarded.
• Must accept the offer by a date stated in the scholarship notification letter, and the offer must become unconditional before a date stated in the scholarship notification letter.
• The programme must commence at the University of Sheffield in Autumn 2027.
• Scholarship cannot be deferred.
• Scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other scholarships from the University.
• Scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any funding from an external sponsor, excluding a loan which has to be paid back in full.
• If receiving a loan from an organisation to which the University offers a discount, you are not able to combine this scholarship with the discount; the most valuable award will take precedence.
• If selected and you fail to meet the conditions of your offer, you will no longer be eligible to receive the award.
• If you take a period of leave of absence, your scholarship will be suspended.
• Any repeat periods will not be funded.
• Scholarship is only eligible for one-year Masters degree courses in the Faculty of Engineering.
• If you change your Masters programme during your studies, your scholarship may be forfeited.
• Students who have studied in the UK for a full degree or lived in the UK long-term are NOT eligible (does not include students who have done Study Abroad in the UK, who are eligible).

• Recipient will need to cover all pre-arrival costs such as visa, health surcharge and travel.

1. Check eligibility, including US citizenship and acceptance to one of the one-year full-time Masters programmes in the Faculty of Engineering by the time the scholarship is awarded.
2. Submit an application before the deadline; applications open before the start of November 2026.
3. Attach an academic reference/endorsement letter from a member of staff in the School you are applying to; the letter should confirm you have discussed your proposed research project with them and that they support your application, and must include the member of staff’s name, position and email address.
4. If shortlisted, take part in an online interview in early March 2027.
5. After final decision is communicated, accept the scholarship and confirm acceptance of your offer by a fixed date stated in the scholarship notification letter, and ensure the offer becomes unconditional before a date stated in the scholarship notification letter.

• An academic reference/endorsement letter from a member of staff in the School you are applying to, confirming discussion of the proposed research project and support for the application, including the staff member’s name, position and email address.
• A 500 word proposal for a project within a specific research area (for the Faculty of Engineering research contribution assessment).
• A 500 word essay (for the civic engagement assessment).
