The Applied Physics B.A. at Whitworth University is built around a dual degree engineering program. Students complete an initial Whitworth portion with coursework and then continue at a partner engineering school to earn a bachelor of arts in applied physics from Whitworth and a bachelor of science in a specific engineering field from the partner school.
The program is a 3-2 structure: a Whitworth coursework period followed by the remainder of study at a partner engineering school. Whitworth and partner schools have formal agreements with Washington University in St. Louis, Columbia University, and Washington State University, with informal arrangements with the University of Idaho and Eastern Washington University.
Students can develop a technical foundation during the Whitworth portion and focus on a specialty at partner schools, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or biomedical engineering. The program includes opportunities to work in the Whitworth Engineering & Physics Department as tutors, teaching assistants, and research assistants.
