Biology Teaching Bs

The Biology Teaching B.S. at the University of West Florida is designed to combine a biology degree with professional teacher certification for grades 6-12. It is a collaboration between the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering and the School of Education. Coursework includes core biology courses, general education classes, education classes, and practical teaching experiences. You will study biochemistry, microbiology, cell biology, genetics, ecology, and more.

Field experiences are built into the curriculum, with coaching from experienced teaching mentors. The program includes options for classes through face-to-face, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Graduation requires a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a passing score on all Florida Teacher Certification Examinations by department deadlines for admission to student teaching. Summer internships can provide a starting stipend of $1,250, and juniors and seniors may qualify for scholarships.

Graduation requirements include a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a passing score on all Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) by department deadlines in order to be admitted to student teaching. The FTCE tests are: 1. General Knowledge, 2. Professional Knowledge and 3. Biology 6-12.

• To qualify for Noyce Scholarships: be enrolled in a UWF-Teach major as a junior or senior, hold a minimum GPA of 2.75, receive a minimum grade of C- in selected education courses and submit two letters of recommendation.
