The University of West Florida offers an online Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS). The program focuses on building skills to promote positive health outcomes for individuals and communities, or to improve operations for a healthcare organization. It also supports students preparing for graduate studies in health-related areas. Topics include trends and issues in health sciences, healthcare fundamentals and laws, health informatics, technology used to analyze medical information, infectious disease epidemics, and ethical issues in clinical and administrative decisions.
The degree totals 120 credit hours, including 60 credit hours within the health sciences major. The major includes 12 credit hours of approved electives chosen by the student with an advisor. Students complete 60 credit hours of general education, covering communication, mathematics, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and lower-level electives. The program includes a capstone course focused on modern research in the health sciences, including the scientific method, research ethics, and data collection.
