Education Studies BA

The Education Studies B.A. is designed for students who want to learn effective practices for teaching and working with children without pursuing a classroom teaching career or pursuing state teacher certification. Students complete field experiences and participate in the cohort model with other students from the Whitworth School of Education. The program prepares graduates to serve in positions outside the public-school classroom and to pursue graduate studies focused on working with children.

Field placements include time in both traditional classroom settings and alternative placements, and students gain experience through multiple required field placements. Students complete a three-credit field experience in a culturally diverse setting, and past placements have included rural Hawaii, urban Australia, and a boarding school in New Mexico. Courses also include opportunities connected to faculty, local professional development conferences and workshops, and coursework focused on intercultural education, ELL instruction, and teaching students with special needs.
