The Electrical Maintenance Technology Diploma at Southeastern Community College prepares students to learn specialized skills in electrical maintenance for jobs in local manufacturing and fabrication facilities. Students cover mechanical and electrical theory across the program and learn how to troubleshoot and repair industrial systems. Skills include designing and building fluid power control circuits, working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programming, wiring, and troubleshooting programmable logic controllers.
The diploma is awarded after successful completion of the first and second semesters. The curriculum sequence includes blueprint reading, industrial electricity, AC/DC fundamentals, safety practices, industrial machine programming, motor controls, and introduction to math applications, followed by fluid power, motor drives, programmable logic controllers I, fluid power control, powertrain and pump operation, and hydraulic power systems and troubleshooting. OSHA safety standards are included, with an OSHA 10 hour certification after completing Industrial Electricity.
This diploma can lead to roles including control and valve installer and repairer, elevator and escalator installer and repairer, wind turbine service technicians, and refractory materials repairers. The Electrical Maintenance Technology certificate is awarded after successful completion of first semester courses, and the Mechanical Maintenance Technology certificate is awarded after successful completion of second semester courses. Certificates and diploma can be earned one time.
