English MA

The English, MA at Stephen F. Austin State University develops skills in advanced literary criticism, bibliography, and research methods. Students explore complex texts and refine their analytical voice through coursework in either literature or creative writing.

The program includes a first-year course on bibliography and research methods, followed by a plan of study developed with the English graduate studies coordinator. Students can study through in-person and remote options. Completion takes two years, and the degree culminates in either a thesis or a comprehensive exam for the literature focus, or a public defense for the creative writing thesis.
