The Environmental Humanities BA at Prescott College is an interdisciplinary bachelor of arts degree that uses the lenses of the humanities—art, history, literature, anthropology, philosophy, and religious studies—to complement scientific approaches to the human-environment relationship. Students investigate, envision, and celebrate human engagements with the non-human world using narrative, interpretive, and creative methods, including study of how environments are socially constructed and represented.
Students complete self-directed learning and interdisciplinary coursework. The program includes study of artistic competencies alongside topics such as climate change, social and environmental justice, and psychology. Students also complete required courses through partners with EcoLeague or CIEL, and they take key courses such as Introduction to the Humanities, Foundations of Regenerative Design, Just Art: Art & Social Change, Environmental Humanities, and a Senior Project.
Graduates pursue varied career paths, including nature writer, photojournalist, community development, regenerative design(er), environmental anthropologist, museum curator, environmental program manager, environmental educator, and community arts organizer.
