Environmental Science (Ph.D.) at the University of Idaho is a research-based doctoral program in environmental science. Students work on research that explores how environmental science intersects with policy and other scientific fields, using a multidisciplinary approach.
The Ph.D. requires 78 credits. Students conduct fieldwork to compile and analyze data, and they use campus laboratories and cooperative partnerships for hands-on fieldwork and data collection. The program includes seminar presentations, qualifying examinations, preliminary exams, and a formal dissertation defended in an oral presentation.
Teaching experience is required, and students gain teaching opportunities in colleges’ laboratories through instructing a class or through course recitation and seminars. The program expects students to publish work in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Admission depends on research interests, the major professor’s interests, availability of research support, and academic record and potential for producing original work worthy of publication.
Applicants for the Ph.D. in environmental science program must meet the following degree-specific admission requirements:
TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo: 79/6.5/115 (for applicants whose education was completed in countries where English is not an official language)
